Move Up Sunday

So many families are in the back to school mode of getting kids ready for the first day of school. You know how it is. You are meeting new teachers, buying from those long class room lists and preparing your son or daughter for the school year. With a new school year comes new classroom experiences, new routines and many, many questions. Honestly, it can be a little overwhelming!

The same is often true for our kids and students at Turning Point Church. Each school year our kids are moving into new ministry experiences, connecting with new friends and meeting new ministry teams that serve them. “Move Up Sunday” was created as a simple way to help answer your questions as parents and to help your child navigate these changes. Take a look below to see what Move Up Sunday is all about.

Q: When is Move Up Sunday? A: Sunday, August 18th.

Q: What happens on Move Up Sunday? A: If you have a child going into the elementary grades or a student going into middle school, we have some extra celebrations prepared for them. Your kindergartner will participate in a fun celebration during our Sunday service and your sixth grader has a bowling party planned for that evening with other students. This is all to help their transition go smooth and to connect with other kids and students.

Q: Should I arrive early? A: Yes. We believe that’s the best choice each Sunday so your child can participate in the full of experience of TPC Kids. However, it’s even more important this Sunday so you can help your child transition easily into their new room and meet the new teams that will be serving you and your family. Early is great!

Q: When can my child move into preschool? A: Your preschooler can move up on their third birthday. As we continue to grow as a church and develop more serve teams, our goal is to have more age specific classrooms that better serve children.

Q: What is next for my sixth grader? A: On Sunday mornings your sixth grader can participate with their parent in the worship experience and/or serve in a ministry area. They can serve as kids small group leaders, class room helpers, and even tech. The more you can connect serving right now in their life, the more impacting that will be in their teenage and adult years. Certainly, we also want your sixth grader to connect with our students in our student ministries as well. We have some cool things for them this fall.

Q: Can my sixth grader stay in TPC Kids on Sundays? We leave that up to parents. We know that each 6th grader is in a pivotal point of change between elementary and middle school. They can participate in TPC Kids as a sixth grader with the goal of connecting them more in our student ministry and serving on Sundays.

Q: What’s next for our student ministry? A: We are re-launching our student ministry in September. They will meet weekly to connect with other friends and experience what it means to follow Christ in their lives through a small group experience. We will also be scheduling fun monthly events where your student can connect with other students. You can find out what is happening on our events page.

Q: Where can I find some practical tools to be a better parent? A: Pastor Steve will be teaching a series called “Raising Home Run Kid” starting on September 8th. This series will be based on Biblical principals that will give you some very practical ways to raise great kids. In fact, this is a great series to invite a friend to come and be a part of.
