Message Notes-Isolation

Here are the notes to Pastor Steve’s message for week #1 of “Is It Just Me?” on Sunday, October 18th, 2020. Feel free to print them and follow along during the online message at 9:55 a.m on Facebook.

“We’re a social species. We really need others to survive.”  Stephanie Cacioppo, University of Chicago

Key idea:  Overcoming isolation happens when we lean into _________________.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.  8  Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  10  And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:9-10

  1. We have a collective _________________ in Jesus.

  2. We have a collective _________________ together as the church.

  3. We have a collective _________________.

“The promise of the local church is greater than the problems of the local church.”  Carey Nieuwhof

How do you stand strong in life and overcome your enemy?

A. Your authority in Christ.

B. Your identity together as the church.

C. All of the above.

“Nothing good happens in isolation.  Solitude is a gift from God.  Isolation is a tool of the enemy.”  Carey  Nieuwhof

Solitude versus Isolation.

  • Solitude makes you more Christ-centered.  Isolation makes you more me-centered.

  • Solitude brings protection.  Isolation brings destruction.

  • Solitude strengthens you.  Isolation weakens you.

  • Solitude helps you love others.  Isolation helps you blame others.

  • Solitude brings us into community.  Isolation brings us into loneliness.

Personal application:

  1. _________________ the opportunities for community.

  2. _________________ the opportunities to isolate.
