For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. 25
Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27 ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’ 28 “The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. 29 But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’ 31 “‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’” Luke 15:24-32
What isolation looks like and what it does:
____________________________ drives us away from God and others.
____________________________ drives us away from God and from others. Check out his self-righteousness.
How would you describe self-righteousness?
Self-righteousness says:
“I _____________________”
“I’m ___________________”
“When our attitude turns from “I’m not worthy to be called a child of God” to “I deserve better!”, it is a sign we are entangled in haughty estimations of spiritual self-worth. When we view God as a banker, issuing notes based on merit, we start to think He owes us something. It’s then we must repent and remember that God is our Father.” Trevin Wax
“Comparison culture is destroying us. Instead of becoming the person God has called me to be, I am trying to become the person God wants them to be. All through personal comparison.” Steve Gill
How can I lean away from a life of self-righteousness? Ask yourself these three questions:
What ____________________________ lives in me?
What kind of self-righteousness lives in you?
How can I lean away from a life of self-righteousness?
2. What are my ____________________________?
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalm 139:23-24
How can I lean away from a life of self-righteousness?
3. ________________ helps keep me ________________________?
Who is that person in your life?
