“Our hope is that you would never surrender, that you never settle and that you would save nothing or the next life.”
Jehoash king of Israel went down to see him and wept over him. “My father! My father!” he cried. “The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” 15 Elisha said, “Get a bow and some arrows,” and he did so. 16 “Take the bow in your hands,” he said to the king of Israel. When he had taken it, Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.17 “Open the east window,” he said, and he opened it. “Shoot!” Elisha said, and he shot. The Lord’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram!” Elisha declared. “You will completely destroy the Arameans at Aphek.” 18 Then he said, “Take the arrows,” and the king took them. Elisha told him, “Strike the ground.” He struck it three times and stopped. 19 The man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times; then you would have defeated Aram and completely destroyed it. But now you will defeat it only three times.” 20 Elisha died and was buried. 2 Kings 13:14-20
Key questions to think about
What would it take for us to save nothing for the next life?
What would it take for us to strike the last arrow?
Is there something in my life that I have given up on too early?
How do I live where I save nothing for the next life?
When I ________________________, I simply ________________ God.
When ________________________, I take full ________________.
I must live with a sense of ________________.
Urgency is importance requiring swift action.
“Leadership is about bringing urgency to the things that matter the most.” Erwin McManus
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. 42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. Matthew 24:42
“If passion is the wire that carries the current then urgency is the current that runs through the wire. One is the conduit, the other is the power. Passion without urgency is powerless. Urgency without passion has no direction.” Steve Gill
“Am I the kind of person who strikes three times and then stops, or am I the kind of person who, when commanded to strike my arrows, keeps striking and striking and striking until there are no arrows left?” Erwin McManus
