Christ Centered

These are the notes from Pastor Steve’s message from the first week of the “#RelationshipGoals” series on February 9th, 2020. You can also watch the message here and fill in the notes below as part of your personal growth in Christ this week.

"Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. "I will make a helper who is just right for him. "So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. "While the man slept, the Lord God took out "one of the man's ribs and closed up the opening. "Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, "and He brought her to the man, "and the man exclaimed, "At last!" "This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh. "She will be called woman because she was taken out of man. "This explains why a man leaves his father and mother "and is joined to his wife, "and the two are united into one." The two will become one flesh. Genesis 2:18-24 NLT

Goals of a great marriage!

  1. We're ___________________  ___________________.

  • What is your life centered around?

  • What is your marriage centered around?

  • Everyone has something that is at the center of their life.

Many #relationshipgoals are based on a false premise.

  • The myth of the ___________________.

    • To really be happy in life, you have to find “the one.”

We need to recalibrate our thinking about “the one.”

  • In a Christ-centered marriage, Jesus is your _________, and your spouse is your _________________.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ Matthew 22:36-37

Our mission as a church:

“To help people experience a life-changing relationship through Jesus Christ.”

If you want a Christ-centered relationship in the ______________, then live a Christ-centered life ___________.

  • Be NOW who you want to marry LATER.

The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the LORD. Proverbs 18:22 NLT

So how do you build a Christ-centered marriage?

Commit to ___________________ together daily.

  1. Keep it ___________________.

  2. Pray like you ___________________.

  3. Keep it ___________________.

  4. If you miss a day, don't miss ___________________.

The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.  James 5:16 (MSG)

Sample prayer:  "Dear Jesus, give us wisdom and clear direction in all we do today.  Help us to show Your love to each other and your love to others in our lives.  Keep us close to You and help us resist temptation in our lives. God, our desire is to always follow your purpose for our lives.  In Jesus' name, Amen."
