Mission Driven

These are the notes from Pastor Steve’s message from the second week of the “#RelationshipGoals” series on February 16th, 2020. You can also watch the message here and fill in the notes below as part of your personal growth in Christ this week.

Goals of a great marriage!

  1. We're ____________    ____________.

  2. We’re ____________    ____________.

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.  Genesis 1:27

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”  Genesis 1:28

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.  Genesis 2:24

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Genesis 3:1

The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”  The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Genesis 3:12-13

What are some good examples of a mission driven marriage?

  • Ruth and Boaz (Ruth 2-4)

  • Priscilla and Aquila

Give my greetings to Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in the ministry of Christ Jesus.  4 In fact, they once risked their lives for me. I am thankful to them, and so are all the Gentile churches. 5 Also, give my greetings to the church that meets in their home.  Romans 16:3-5 (NLT)

Questions to ask yourselves from Priscilla and Aquila’s example.

  1. What are we able to ____________   as a couple to be on mission to serve and point people to Jesus?

  2. Where are we able to ____________    ____________ or sacrifice our lives for others to experience Christ?

  3. How can we ____________    __________ ____________ wherever we do life with others?

“Become the person that you're looking for, is looking for.”  Andy Stanley

Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?  Amos 3:3

For how can we walk together with your sins between us?  Amos 3:3 (TLB)

Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?  Amos 3:3 (NLT)

Questions to ask yourselves about being mission-driven.

  • Where are the two of you walking ____________________?

  • Where are the two of you ____________________ on mission in your marriage?
