Good Friday Reflections
Today we gather to remember what Christ did for all of us on Good Friday. He died for us! We’ve set up our auditorium as a quiet place for you to take some time to reflect, pray, and receive communion. We have also created this card to give you some tangible ways to reflect on the power of what Christ has done for you and to give you some real ways to pray and reflect. We hope it is helpful to you. Please take as much time as you like, we simply ask that as you spend time here, please do so quietly and reverently. We also have a staff member available if you’d like to pray with them.
Station #1-Personal Reflection
Find a place to sit where you can quiet yourself from the busyness of life. If possible, take a few moments to pray to God to give you focus on the next few moments. Maybe your prayer is similar to this; “Dear Lord, help me to focus on this moment. Help me let go of the busyness and the details of my life so that I can focus on what Christ did for me. Lord lead me, I’m listening. Amen.”
After you pray, read and reflect on the verses that are on the screen. These verses will be a great reminder of what Christ did for us and why his death was so important.
Station #2-Personal Ownership
Because of what Christ did for us on the cross, we can be made right with God.
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24
When Christ died on that cross, our sins died too, and we were made right with God. Through Christ, we can have a right relationship with God and we can experience healing from our past and the consequences of our personal decisions. Jesus said that we can experience “a life to the full.”
Take a few moments to think about what Christ has forgiven you for or what he has freed you from. It’s possible that you may need to ask God for forgiveness for something in your life right now. As a symbolic way to remember what Christ did for you, take a nail and place it in the cross. This is a symbolic step of asking Jesus for forgiveness or thanking Jesus for what he’s already forgiven.
Station #3-Personal Communion
Communion has been celebrated by followers of Jesus to remind them of Christ’s death. The bread reminds us of Christ’s body that was broken for us and the juice reminds us of his blood that was spilled for us.
As a way to close your Good Friday experience today, we encourage you to participate in communion. You may step to the communion table to receive your communion and then quietly reflect and take your communion back at your seat. Below are a couple of verses to guild your personal time of communion.
The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, 28
